GIS Workshop Flyer initiates PDF download

Geographical Information Systems (GIS) form the basis of spatial, statistical analysis in archeology. They are used both in the post-processing and analysis of archaeological excavation projects (inttra-site analysis) as well as in the analysis of large spatial information of archeological landscapes (inter-site analysis).
The aim of the seminar is to provide participants with basic skills in the use of common GIS applications (ArcGIS, GRASS GIS), where archaeological data and issues
are used to illustrate the concepts and methods.
Participants will be able after the seminar to

  • import and combine historical maps, satellite images, aerial photographs, AutoCAD data, geophysical data etc. into a GIS,
  • link geometric/vector data to thematic data (database),
  • calculate 2.5D digital terrain models/raster map (DTMs),
  • perform simple spatial analysis,
  • create digital maps for e.g. publication or WebGIS.
