Blood and knowledge, from early Greek thought to Plato’s Timaeus

Prof. Sassi adresses a central issue in the physiology of sensation of Plato’s Timaeus, namely, how the affections pass through the body so as to reach the soul, and thus become sensations. In tackling this issue Plato intends to provide a firm physiological basis to a notion which is seen to emerge in the Theatetus and the Philebus, and is crucial to Plato’s theory of knowledge.
