The thesis focuses on wheel-thrown pottery of Germania Magna from the area between Elbe and Oder.

Research

Apart from processing the occurrence, chronology, classification and so on of the research object, furthermore, the application of geochemical and archaeoceramological analysis aims on the revelation of economic structures of said wheel-thrown pottery. Archaeometric methods of analysis (e.g. portable X-ray fluorescence analysis, Matrix-group by refiring) enable us to determine the chemical composition respectively the clay matrix of the clay used in the manufacture of the samples concerned. This allows us to distinguish pottery clay from different clay deposits, which makes it possible to establish the areas of dissemination of pottery from different production sites.

Results

For the research, samples from selected sites of Brandenburg and Eastern Saxony were analyzed. First results of the research are showed on the main project page: (A-6-4) Wheel-thrown pottery of the Imperial Periods in Barbaricum.
