Lossow und Lebus. Ein Burgenpaar an der Oder?

Abstract

Lossow and Lebus – two Bronze Age fortifications in East Brandenburg – are only 16 kilometers away from each other. The extremely advantageous position of both hillforts is evident in their location directly on the Oder River, as well as in their deliberate placement on a natural plateau. For these reasons, they were undoubtedly assigned an important strategic function at a geographic transportation hub. Coupling this information with the economic and trade functions that have already been archaeologically proven for both sites raises thequestion of why a pair of hillforts were deliberately placed here, what the two fortifications had in common, and what functions they had.
