Research in Topoi II (2012–2019)
knowledge through space
In the second funding phase of the Excellence Cluster Topoi (2012–2019) the research program integrated the category of knowledge into the analysis of spatial phenomena. The topic was knowledge through space. Fundamental lines of research in the context of standard disciplines were built on, relying ultimately on intensive discussions within and between the different research groups.
Twenty-three “research groups” worked in four areas. Each research group had an overarching problem, and each project within the group investigated individual aspects of this problem. The goal was to pose interdisciplinary research questions that can be explored in individual projects with the aid of field-specific expertise. Networking between the areas was facilitated by two formats: the Key Topics and the Topoi Lab. In the project period November 2017 to December 2018, Topoi focused on topics that have emerged in the first two funding phases of the Cluster (2007-2017) and have opened up new perspectives and potential for further research. Within the scope of short projects, partial aspects of these topics were examined in more detail on the basis of previous research.
